What makes the best leader?
I'd like to open this blog with thoughts on what makes the best leader. As we develop this, I invite you the readers to contribute your own comments and thoughts.
"When you have integrity, nothing else matters. When you don't have integrity, nothing else matters" - Harvey McKay
Integrity includes the practice of being respectful, authentic, sincere, present and accountable. I am focusing this on the leaders who are truly leading, going beyond the traditional role of manager.
Managers tend to focus on plans, agendas, budgets, deadlines, command and control.
Leaders focus on the vision and mission, pointing us in the direction of growth and gain, inviting us to participate by coaching and creating. Leaders focus on how to take their team along with them by cultivating the skills, strengths and abilities of those around them.
Heard an interview today that described leadership as love for fellow mankind and service. I know many including Mother Theresa while she was alive would agree with this and plenty more probably will not.
Lean Leadership is built on TWO core concepts; Respect for People and Standard Leader Work. The point is that leadership gets more done than managing alone. Most of us learn we need to be able to excel in both areas to make the greatest impact.
Sounds like a theme!
This month we have two excellent opportuntities for leadership to learn how to expand your firm's competitive advantage by teaming up with APICS NoCo and Transformance Advisors, collaborating with RMTAA (Rocky Mtn Trade Adjustment Assistance) centers for up to 50% funding for improvement initiatives.
